About the destination

Separated from the rest of Oman by the east coast of the United Arab Emirates, and guarding the southern side of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, the Musandam Peninsula is dubbed the ‘Norway of Arabia’ for its beautiful khors (rocky inlets), small villages, and dramatic, mountain-hugging roads. Accessible but still isolated in character, this beautiful peninsula with its cultural eccentricities is well worth a visit if you’re on an extended tour of Oman. 

 

Visit the historic Khasab Castle offering stunning views of the Strait of Hormuz, and delve into the dramatic landscapes of Khawr Haffa, a fjord-like inlet. For the adventurous, hike the slopes of Jabal Harim, the highest mountain in Musandam, or embark on a boat trip to Telegraph Island (Khawr Ash Sham), a small island with the ruins of a British telegraph station in Khasab.

 

Musandam is a haven for water activities, thanks to its stunning fjords, crystal-clear waters, and diverse marine life. Popular options include dhow cruises, snorkelling and diving, dolphin watching, kayaking, and fishing – both recreational, and deep-sea fishing.
